2025 2nd Ottawa Open Wushu Championship

The 2nd Ottawa Open Wushu Championship Concludes Successfully — Over 100 Athletes from 10 Teams Across Canada Gather in the Capital

The 2nd Ottawa Open Wushu Championship, organized by Barrhaven Maple Wushu Club and Orleans WushuOttawa Club, concluded successfully in Ottawa with more than 100 athletes from 10 Wushu teams across Canada, including Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and Saskatoon.

This year’s competitors included several athletes who have been selected for the Canadian National Wushu Team and will represent Canada at the 2025 World Junior Wushu Championships and the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, demonstrating the rising strength of Wushu in Canada.

A total of 68 gold, 51 silver, and 43 bronze medals were awarded, showcasing exceptional talent and sportsmanship in both modern and traditional Wushu events.

The event was honored by the presence of:

  • Minister-Counsellor Lin Bin and Counsellor Pan Ning of the Embassy of China in Canada, who delivered speeches recognizing the significance of the event;

  • Former Canadian Senator Victor Oh, who sent a greeting letter;

  • Zheng Zujie, national-level Wing Chun inheritor from Beijing, who delivered an outstanding performance;

  • Master Li Wenqi, Head Coach of the Canadian National Wushu Team, who led his team to perform and compete;

  • The Shaolin Tiger Style Kung Fu Centre, founded in the 1980s by Master Li Minghong, who presented whip chain, pudao, and internal boxing routines;

  • Kung Fu Ottawa with an energetic lion dance and Choy Lee Fut performance;

  • Sunny Tang Ottawa, who delivered an impressive synchronized Wing Chun demonstration;

  • Montreal Feng Huang Wushu and WushuOttawa with high-level exhibitions.


As one of the organizers, Barrhaven Maple Wushu Club received high praise for professional planning, competition management, judging system, safety arrangements, award ceremony execution, and overall organization.

This championship demonstrated the charm of Chinese martial arts while providing overseas practitioners with an important platform for cultural exchange, community bonding, and personal growth.

Wushu transcends language and background — when athletes demonstrate their skills on the same floor, the culture is already being shared.May the spirit of Chinese martial arts continue to shine globally.
